North West, Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire

This large region spreads from the Irish sea through Lancashire and Cheshire, over the Pennines and Yorkshire Moors to the shores of the North Sea. The power house of the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century, Lancashire not only offers many fine museums celebrating its illustrious past, but a lovely countryside of sweeping hills and picturesque villages. Blackpool attracts millions of visitors and is famous for its illuminations, 7 miles of glittering lights.

To the south is Cheshire and the lovely town of Chester, with its splendid cathedral and fascinating old streets. East up the lovely Ribble Valley to the moors in Yorkshire, the largest county in England, a huge area of great beauty encompassing the Dales and Fells, great forests and wide rivers, large industrial towns and scenic villages.

The Yorkshire Dales are one of the finest landscapes in England, so familiar to the viewers of James Herriot's "All Creatures Great and Small". Yorkshire and Humberside have many fine towns and cities. York, the finest medieval city in England offers its visitors elegant shopping in its narrow streets, many unusual and interesting museums and the marvellous Minster at the centre of the surrounding city walls with their four Great Gates.
