Scotland - The Lowlands

Stretching north from Hadrian's Wall through the sweeping hills of the Border Counties, purple with heather, the landscape softens after leaving the Portland Hills, descending to the Firth's of Clyde and Forth in Central Scotland. A long history of border skirmishes with the English has left a wealth of castles and towers spread over the Lowlands.

The South West coast is rich in heritage and a paradise for the golfer. Robert Burns, Scotland's National Poet was born in Alloway from where the Burns Heritage Trail starts. The South East coast has unspoilt scenery and is also a feast for golfers with over 16 courses. Edinburgh, on the Firth of Forth, is Scotland's capital and one of the world's most romantic and picturesque cities, being surrounded by hills and woodlands with the sea on its doorstep. The city's main attractions include many Art Galleries, Museums, Botanical gardens, and is home to the world famous Edinburgh Arts Festival in August.

Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and its industrial and business capital. One of the finest Victorian cities in Britain with many splendid buildings, museums and art galleries, reflecting its proud history as an engineering and shipbuilding centre. The banks of the adjacent Clyde are home to many harbours and marinas in this popular area for sailing and cruising.
