As well as being wonderful countries to visit, Britain and Ireland also offer the opportunity to study and learn English, the world language of communication. Over 450,000 foreign students come to Britain each year to study English, but the word "student" no longer means just young people at school or university. Schools can offer courses for all ages from very young children to courses for retired people. A lot of people who study English these days are business people who need to do as much as possible in a limited time, and so very intensive courses are also available.
